The washing of the feet on Holy Thursday is more than a suggestion, or even a reminder; it is a commandment. We are sent out into the world to serve, and the world has no shortage of need. On the parish level, we try to take seriously the great hunger before us, a physical and a spiritual hunger that Christ does not wish us to ignore.

There are many ways, some grand and some humble, to serve. We generously support our chapter of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and gather food during the annual CCD canned food drive sponsored by the Confirmation class. During the holidays, parishioners put in many hours preparing November Thanksgiving Baskets, then start all over again in December with the annual ChrIstmas Baskets. Requests for gifts are hung from a festive giving tree displayed in Siena Hall, and parishioner response is always generous. The cry for emergency assistance has been increasing over the past few years, and the parish is always open to new ways we can answer.

Another kind of poverty may affect someone whose pantry is full and whose Christmas stocking hangs heavy with the weight of things. Prayer is never “the least we can do,” although sometimes we do it the least. Holy Rosary strives to be a house of prayer, led by a preaching order that courageously calls forth the very best from all who dare to wear the name of Christ.

We need you to help satisfy that hunger for Christ: pray regularly and share your faith with those you meet; teach or assist in the religious education program; bring friends and neighbors to Mass and Adoration; volunteer to make rosaries; be part of the pro-life movement; help with funeral receptions; in effect, be a creative agent of change. We can put together programs, but you might be the one God is calling. For several years we had a core of interested teens quietly leaving holy cards at bus stops, in Pioneer Place and homeless shelters, just because they wanted to share the good news. Contact the Director of Education and share your vision; we are all in this together.
