Secular Order Discalced Carmelites are men and women in the Catholic Church who are called to a deeper spiritual life under the protection of Our Lady of Mt Carmel and inspired by St. Teresa of Avila, St John of the Cross and St Therese of Lisieux. The Secular Order Carmelite longs to seek God through prayer, to find Him and to share Him with others.
Each day, Secular Order members commit to pray Morning Prayer, Evening Prayer and – when possible – Night Prayer from the Liturgy of the Hours. We spend at least half an hour in personal prayer. We do our best to attend daily Mass. Members frequently avail of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. We keep fasting laws of the Church, and we fast on vigils of solemnities and major Carmelite feasts.
The Portland OCDS community meets monthly on the third Saturday of the month at Holy Rosary Parish, beginning with the 8:00 a.m. Mass (November & December are on the second Saturday). Meetings conclude at 12:30. For further information, contact Lee Ann Trunk @ 360-696-4826.
