Catechesis for adults, since it deals with persons who are capable of an adherence that is fully responsible, must be considered the chief form of catechesis. All the other forms, which are indeed always necessary, are in some way oriented to it. This implies that the catechesis of other groups should have it for a point of reference and should be expressed in conjunction with it, in a coherent catechetical program. . .

The continuing education of adults is at the center of the church’s educational mission. In a very real sense, children are raised up in an adult faith. Continuing religious education, either formal or informal, is essential for all Catholics.

We are fortunate at Holy Rosary to benefit from our association with the Order of Preachers, the Dominicans, who in addition to their mission of study and preaching take seriously the central need of adult formation. We encourage all parishioners to attend classes, programs and lectures offered at the parish level.

However, due to age, infirmity, the demands of work and family, or the distance from home to the church, not everyone is able to take advantage of opportunities here at the parish. In addition to excellent resources online and in our libraries, parishioners are encouraged to have a copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church next to the family Bible in their homes. An ideal “one stop” reference book, the Catechism is an organic presentation of the Catholic faith in its entirety. But, far more than that, it is a beautiful and inspiring instrument not only for conversion, but the continual re-conversion of our hearts and minds in deeper conformity to Christ.

Tuning to televised programming on EWTN is another way many Catholics and non-Catholics alike are able to turn precious leisure time into time well-spent. Obviously, if you can’t use cell phones in cars you certainly can’t watch television, but even the long commute can be an opportunity to grow in the faith. In 1989, the priests and parishioners of Holy Rosary took the lead in establishing radio station KBVM, and have remained ardent supporters of the station. The parish had been sponsoring radio broadcasts of the rosary from this church since the 1950’s when, during his term as pastor, Fr. Paul Duffner spearheaded the drive for all-Catholic radio. In 1989, KBVM became the first lay-sponsored radio station in the United States, and can be heard at 88.3 FM.

The Catholic Sentinel, published twice monthly, is another good source for continuing Catholic education. Let every day be a day to learn and grow in the faith. For opportunities at Holy Rosary, be sure and check the weekly calendar in the bulletin, the announcements on the website home page, and notices under Lectures and Meetings inthe Parish Life section online.

To teach as Jesus did means calling and equipping Christians of every age and stage of life to fulfill their baptismal call to holiness in family, Church and society- their mission to evangelize and transform the world into a more caring and just society.
