Although a Californian, it seems that I am fated--or more Christianly put, providentially directed--to Oregon. Indeed, I am now serving my sixth assignment to the Beaver State, my third to Holy Rosary. The situation suits me well, however, as I have come to love the great Northwest with its splashing ocean, its sweeping forests, and its dramatic volcanoes. Portland is one of the nation's best kept secrets, a lovely and intriguing city with extraordinarily friendly people. I say extraordinarily as a personal judgement urged on me by my California experiences. I am delighted to be here and at my advanced age it would not surprise me if this were my last assignment. I do not say this from any sense of foreboding, but rather from a sense of contentment.
